Alessandro Machìa graduated in Philosophy with a thesis on Luigi Pareyson's tragic ontology. Since 2013 he has dedicated himself to the study of Jon Fosse's dramaturgy, one of the greatest living dramatists, on which he conducts seminars and training workshops.

His interest as a director is directed towards the elaboration of a negative way of directing, which works on subtraction, on emptiness, attentive to the dimension of the invisible, which puts the actor at the centre in his relationship with the other and in the necessity of presence. Hence, the attention to the relationship word/silence and in general to the problem of meaning and representation in relation to the truth, to the possibility of an authentic saying authentic.

He mainly deals with contemporary dramaturgy and the rewriting of the classics, with particular attention to Greek tragedy and tragic thought. On the rewriting of the classics, since 2013 he has started a close collaboration with playwright Fabrizio Sinisi, Testori Prize 2018.

He trained as an actor, studying with Laura Jacobbi, Giorgio Spaziani and Giorgina Cantalini at the "Permis de Conduire" Academy in Rome. In 2006 he met Maestro Giancarlo Sepe, with whom he studied for two years in his "Laboratorio Permanente per l'Attore" , first as an actor and then as a tutor, with whom he deepened the relationship between music, movement and the actor's gesture in the construction of the play. To this day, his shows are born from the interaction with music in the construction of the character.

He has been assistant director to many important directors on the contemporary scene, including Mario Missiroli, Marco Mattolini, Daniele Salvo, Marco Tullio Giordana (in the colossal The coast of Utopia, 2 UBU Awards, 2 Le Maschere Awards, ANCT Award) and Oscar winner Gianni Quaranta, with whom he collaborated from 2005 to 2011 on two film productions, a musical and an opera, Bizet's Carmen, acting as dramaturg/assistant director.

He has worked with actors such as Maestro Giorgio Albertazzi, then with Alessandro Preziosi, Elisabetta Pozzi, Luca Lazzareschi, and has directed actors such as Paolo Bonacelli, Paolo Graziosi, Mascia Musy, Edoardo Siravo, Elena Ghiaurov, Graziano Piazza, Enrico Lo Verso, Sergio Romano, Viola Graziosi, Daniela Poggi and Alessandro Averone.

He made his directing debut in 2009 with 'Trio in mi bemolle', a multimedia show based on a text by Eric Rohmer, one of the most representative authors of the French New Wave. In the same year he founded the ZERKALO company, which he directs with actress and pedagogue Alessandra Fallucchi.

In 2011 he made his debut at the Vascello Theatre in Rome with the play 'Sogno d'autunno' by JON FOSSE starring Sergio Romano, Viola Graziosi and Daniela Piperno. The show was invited to the 25th Intercity Festival in Sesto Fiorentino and is still considered one of the best Italian productions of the Norwegian author: the show was the subject of a doctoral thesis on Jon Fosse and included in a monographic course on Fosse at the DAMS in Bologna, alongside the works of masters of the scene such as Patrice Chéreau, Claude Régy, Luk Perceval and Valerio Binasco.

His work on Fosse's metaphysical dramaturgy is still going on, and recently his philosophical essay on the relationship between word and silence in Fosse's theatre appeared in the prestigious magazine 'Il Castello di Elsinore', directed by Roberto Alonge and Franco Perrelli. This essay was the result of the conference organized in 2013 by the University of Parma entitled 'Le vie italiane a Jon Fosse', in which he participated as director/speaker.

In 2012 he collaborated as director to an important project against femicide, organized by Fonderia delle Arti, PuntoD, DiGay Project and Radio Rock with the support of Roma Capitale, entitled "Storie di donne morte ammazzate (allegra barbarie)". The format toured Italy and in 2014 won the "Premio Paolo Borsellino".

His directing credits include: A Steady rain, by the multi-awarded American author Keith Huff (among the authors of the American series House of Cards and True Detective), successfully presented as a national premiere at the 2014 Todi Festival, in which the American storytelling model becomes a reflection on the ambiguity of language and the status of the truth of storytelling; the performance CALL ME GOD, a polyvocal dramaturgy by Gian Maria Cervo, Albert Ostermaier, Marius von Mayenburg and Rafael Spregelburd, produced by the International Festival Quartieri dell'Arte in Viterbo within the European Community project called "EU Collective Plays". In the 2015/2016 season he directed Alberto Bassetti's latest play, "SORELLA CON FRATELLO", starring Alessandro Averone and Alessandra Fallucchi, which was a great success with audiences and critics.

In 2013 he met the young author Fabrizio Sinisi, stable dramaturg of the Lombardi-Tiezzi Company and of the CTB. With Sinisi he collaborates on a project of rewriting the classics that has so far resulted in three important productions:

- Natura morta con attori, with Alessandro Averone and Federica Sandrini, produced by the Compagnia Lombardi-Tiezzi and premiered at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan for the Festival Tramedautore 2016 and then at the LAC in Lugano directed by Carmelo Rifici;

- Agamennone, with Paolo Graziosi and Mascia Musy, a poetic rewriting of the Aeschylean tragedy that premiered at Amat Marche's TAU 2016 review and at the Plautus Festival, and was a guest, among others, in the 2017/2018 season of the Teatro Stabile di Torino with success.

- Troiane, with Paolo Bonacelli, Edoardo Siravo, Alessandra Fallucchi, Marcella Favilla, Gabriella Casali and Cecilia Zingaro. AMAT debut + summer tour 2018. Resumption 2019/2020 season winter and summer national tour, CEDAC and TSU. The show has been a success with audiences and critics (a review by Franco Cordelli on the national page of the Corriere della Sera is worthy of note) and will have a tour resumption in the 2020/2021 season.

In December 2017 he directed the Italian premiere of Jon Fosse's unpublished text "Caldo", (Varmt) translated by Franco Perrelli and produced by Giorgio Barberio Corsetti's FATTORE K company. The show will be on tour in the 2021/2022 season. The text has just been published by Mattia Visani for the CUE Press editions.

In 2022 he will direct the play TORQUATO TASSO by J.W. Goethe, adapted by Fabrizio Sinisi, starring Alessandro Averone, Alessandra Fallucchi and a cast to be defined. The project won the BANDO NUOVO IMAIE TEATRO 2019 and will be co-produced by Zerkalo and a structure yet to be defined.
In autumn 2021, he will direct a TRAINING project on Jon Fosse's theatre entitled "WHEN AN ANGEL CROSSES THE SCENE" JON FOSSE'S Mystical Theatre for the Italian Actor. The project came first in the BANDO NUOVO IMAIE FORMAZIONE 2019. The project will consist of four advanced training workshops for actors with great directors of the Italian scene who are still in the process of definition and will end with a conference on Jon Fosse, with interventions by great scholars and critics of Italian theatre. The project is still being defined.

- In November 2013, he was invited by the University of Parma as a speaker for a conference on Jon Fosse's dramaturgy, alongside directors of the calibre of Valter Malosti, Valerio Binasco, Marco Sgrosso and scholars such as Prof. Franco Perrelli (Univ. Statale di Torino) and Prof. Luigi Allegri (Univ. Statale di Parma).

A great lover of opera theatre, in 2014 he participated as director in the Puccini Festival Torre del Lago's call for entries for Puccini's TRITTICO, coming second, but with the best score for artistic quality.

In the field of artistic direction it is worth mentioning:

- In 2015 he is called to collaborate on the Artistic Direction of the Festival La Versiliana directed by Luca Lazzareschi, for the OFF programme of the festival.
- In the 2019/2020 season he supervised the theatre season of Spazio Diamante and acted as artistic supervisor of Teatro Brancaccino for Alessandro Longobardi.
- In 2019 he applied for the Artistic Direction of the prestigious PLAUTUS FESTIVAL in Sarsina, on a national call, ranking only two points behind the reappointed director.
